Extended Essay: Progression of EE Lessons/ProcessHere is a screencast that provides a quick overview of the EE and what is expected of the SEHS IB candidates.
You will be expected to print out and maintain a journal that will involve prompts and additional tasks located within these documents. Each lesson involves a specific EE element that serves as the primary focus. This documentation will be compiled in a Google Doc where you can submit your work and your supervisor can follow your progress.
In the Introduction portion of the EE process, you will need to navigate through the first seven lessons. After this process you will have additional lessons that will focus on Beginning the Process, Consolidating and Writing, and Finalization. By April 11 you should have started the Introduction sequence and go through at least one lesson per day. You should be done with the Introduction section and all of its tasks by April 23. Download the timeline in the document provided below:
Open this file, copy its contents and then fill out the fields specifically related to your EE. This should be located in section three of your Gdoc.
Unit 1: INTRODUCTION (February thru April)
By April 11 you should have started the Introduction sequence and go through at least one lesson per day. You should be done with the Introduction section and all of its tasks by April 23.
Unit 2: BEGINNING THE PROCESS (Finish by April 30)
By April 23 you should have started the BtP sequence and go through at least one lesson every other day. You should be done with the BtP section and all of its tasks by April 30.
By May 1, you will need to send your Gdoc link to your EE supervisor. There, the supervisor will do the following:
Annotated Bibliography (15+ Sources By May 14)
Make sure your bibliography is annotated before you begin the drafting process. To learn more about an annotated bibliography, watch this short video. |
By May 14th you will have completed all of the journal tasks that have been assigned in lessons 1-10, you will write the first reflection that will be placed in your Reflections on Planning and Progress Form (RPPF) which will be submitted to IB along with your EE final draft.
Once your supervisor reviews the aforementioned items, s/he will finally look at your RPPF #1 content. Remember, all three RPPF entries cannot total more than 500 words, so economy of words and being articulate is very important.
Once you have received your supervisor's approval (signatures), you can now move to Unit 3: Consolidating the Writing. Use the above button to look into specific elements that you will need to consider when writing your EE. When you navigate to this page, look on the left side to select your subject area and read through the various items associated with the EE subject area of your choosing.
Unit 3: CONSOLIDATING THE WRITING (May thru July)
By this point (June 15th) you should have written your Reflection #2 for IB Submission (see PDF form in Lesson 7). This will still be written in your GDoc and will be reviewed by your supervisor. This is a mandatory task that needs to be completed by the 6/15/17 deadline.
Unit 3.5: Rough Draft Submission & AssessmentBefore you submit your rough draft, you will need to assess your EE using the EE Scoring Rubric. On the first day of school you will provide a copy of your RD as well as a copy of your EESR, complete with your score assessment, checklist, and all other items associated with the provided marksheet. Use the file below to complete your scoring task.
On the first day of the 2017-18 school year, you will submit a hard copy of your rough draft to your SBC. No late drafts will be reviewed. The EEs will be distributed to the supervisors. This is the one time the supervisor can review and respond to your work. Review the supervisor's responsibilities in Lesson #2 to gain a clear understanding of what they can or cannot do.
Unit 4: FINAL STAGES (August thru October)
After you finish your final draft, you will need to use the scoring rubric to score your EE. This document will help you complete your last reflection as well as allow you to be specific in your upcoming Viva Voce.
At this point you need to complete your final reflection piece that will be submitted to IB via the Reflections on Planning and Progress form. This needs to be completed before you schedule your viva voce.
The viva voce should be completed between November and December. Therefore, review the lesson, and prepare your oral presentation on your EE process. Look at the questions and prepare specific answers.
When that is completed, you will provide your supervisor with a digital copy of the Reflections on Planning Progress Form. Within that form you will have all three major reflection pieces. Once the supervisor receives that, s/he will review the form, add his/her reflections on the candidate's process, sign it and submit the copy to the SBC. The supervisor will need to submit all candidate forms by January 10. |
