Film Portfolio Assessment
The IB Film Production Portfolio piece is worth 40% of your overall grade. Therefore, it is extremely important for you to know all of the ins and outs of this element of assessment.
There are two major components of the Film Production assessment:
Students are to select three production roles that they will assume when producing work to be showcased in their film reels and their artistic process will be articulated in their film pages. Film Production Pages/Reel: Rubric and Markbands
This is what the examiner will be using to assess your work. You will notice that there are three sections for both the reel and pages. The rubrics for both pieces of this assessment are provided below:
Your Film Production Commentary: A How To Guide
Your PP Commentary should have the following information placed in this order:
- Cover Page
- Table of Contents
- Film Pages Commentary
- Production Role #1
- Production Role #2
- Production Role #3
- Works Cited Page
Section One: Cover Page
The Title Page needs to include the following information:
- Film Production Assessment
- IB Film Standard Level
- Cohort (testing session)
- Personal Code (given by SBC; not your IB candidate code)
- Nine Minute Reel URL
Section Two: Table of Contents
The Table of Contents page needs to include the following information:
- Table of Contents title
- Production Role #1: Title........................Page it starts on
- Clip #1: Title of clip and timestamp
- Clip #2: Title of clip and timestamp
- Clip #3: Title of clip and timestamp
- Production Role #2: Title........................Page it starts on
- Clip #1: Title of clip and timestamp

Section Three: Film Production Pages Commentary (Pages 1-9)
The Commentary needs to include the following sections:
When writing the entire Film Portfolio Assessment commentary (PAGES), follow the template provided in the file below:
- Production role #1 section (three page commentary)
- Production role #2 section (three page commentary)
- Production role #3 section (three page commentary)--This section involves your three minute film production.

Section Four: Works Cited (Page 10)
Remember: if you provide quotes or information from researched sources, make sure you cite your work within the text. You will also provide the citation information in your bibliography located in the section following the commentary. Here is a guide to how to cite within the text and to create a bibliography for your PP:

Your Film Portfolio Reel: A How To Guide
Your nine minute Film Production Reel will consist of three major sections:
It will be structured in the following way:
- Production Role #1 and footage from multiple clips (that are each identified)
- Production Role #2 and footage from multiple clips (that are each identified)
- Production Role #3 and the three minute film
It will be structured in the following way:
Therefore, you will have to edit your pieces in smaller chunks, according to production role, in order to assemble a nine minute film reel.
Before each Production Role segment, include:
Once you have completed the nine minute reel, export the video to your hard drive. Back it up on a flash drive and save it in a third location (for backup).
Upload the film to your YouTube account. Save the URL so that you can provide it on your Film Production Cover Sheet (see details above).

- 10 second black slate (shown at the start of the production role reel) that includes the following on a title card:
- “Film Production Role #__
- Production Role Declaration
- Clip 1: Clip Title and Timestamp
- Clip 2: Clip Title and Timestamp
- Clip 3: Clip Title and Timestamp
- Three minutes maximum per role (excluding 10 second black slate); Nine minutes total

Authenticity Statement Slide
Before you start anything else, you need to begin the FPA video with an AUTHENTICITY STATEMENT. This is no longer than 15 seconds long and includes not only a black title card with white text on it, but also includes an audio recording of your voice reading the statement.
